What does a Tune-Up involve?

Malware removal

Sometimes your machine is running slow because you have a virus or some other form of malware roaming free on your system. As part of a tune-up service, we will check for common malware and remove it.

Optimisation

Not every slow computer has a problem, sometimes they just aren’t performing tasks in the most efficient way. Our tune-up service includes optimisation, whereby we will defragment your hard disk and consolidate it’s free space, removing any unnecessary clutter and promoting startup programs to load faster. We clean your computer of unnecessary backup files from previous Windows update attempts and apply the latest updates available for your operating system from Microsoft.

SSD upgrade

If your computer has the capability, we may suggest upgrading to a solid state disk (SSD). These devices use flash memory chips instead of moving parts to store and retrieve data. As a result, they are almost immune to damage from being banged around and are between four and ten times faster than a spinning mechanical hard disk, and the technology is still improving! In many cases, your computer will perform faster than when it was new.

Additional RAM

Sometimes a computer seems to run perfectly fast, but then you open a couple of web pages and it slows to a crawl. This can be a sign of insufficient random access memory (RAM) as the computer will start suplementing it’s lack of RAM by using an area of it’s hard disk called the page file through a phenomenon know as virtual memory.

We combat this, we may suggest adding more physical memory to you computer so it can tackle these memory intensive appls without slowing to a crawl.
